The house is conceived as a large traditional farmhouse form with single storey extensions & outbuilding re-creating a traditional farm courtyard with the house entrance sheltered from the prevailing wind. The house contains five bedrooms to house the whole family as well as contemporary open plan living areas to take advantage of the views and orientation.
The house and outbuilding has a traditional 40ยบ roof pitch finished in natural slate and sandstone skews. Sandstone is also used as a basecourse and window cills. Wall finishes are generally white self-coloured render with a scaped textured finish & some cedar cladding for garage doors & at the entrance. There is to be a separate steel framed and clad cattle shed sited away from the house on lower lying ground. The house will be designed using sustainable construction and will be very highly insulated to reduce energy consumption. |
