the brae

The existing house is 1.5 storey, stone walled and slate roofed, typical of those found in Galloway. The client is a professional couple with young children. Their brief was fulfilled by the proposals which comprised;

1. A new sitting room to the rear at garden level which addresses both the rear garden and the southerly aspect.
2. A new dining area to the rear looking onto the garden and connected to the kitchen.
3. At the intersection of the above elements, a top-lit study and set of steps resolve the junction between the higher garden level with the lower main house level.
4. External terrace and landscaping works.
5. Addition of en suite bathroom and new family bathroom.
6. Various other minor internal alternations and the addition of a new heating & hot water system.
7. The exterior of the extension comprises natural slate, standing seam zinc roofs, cedar clad and self coloured render walls, together with high performance, Scandinavian windows.

The overall completed works have truly transformed the existing house to a modern family home.
